Aqiqah is defined as sacrifice of an animal on the occasion of a child’s birth in Islamic terminology. Aqiqah, on the other hand, is for a newborn baby and it can be done at anytime before the child reaches puberty. The Prophet s.a.w said: “A boy is in pledge for his Aqiqah, sacrifice is made for him on the seventh day, his head is shaved and he is given name
Aqiqah is to be performed by the parents or the guardians of the child to show gratitude to Allah (Swt) for the gift of a child. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his companions used to perform Aqiqah when they were bestowed with a newborn.
Aqiqah is a Sunnah Muak’ka’dah, strongly encouraged by our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
We should sacrifice 2 goats/sheep for baby boy and 1 goat/sheep for baby girl according to Sunnah. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “Two sheep which resemble each other (in age) are to be sacrificed for a boy and one for a girl.”
Yes, you can add one more goat later since the best way to perform Aqiqah according to Sunnah for baby boy is 2 goats/sheep.
It is also Sunnah to shave the baby’s hair and give a name on the 7th day.
Aqiqah is meant for child before baligh and if the person has not done any aqiqah and already an adult this then can consider as Sadaqah.
We only need to perform Aqiqah once in a lifetime.
Qurban is the Ibadah (act of worship) of Sunnah which is to be done on Eid-ul-Adha or during the 3 days after it. The main purpose of Qurban is to make oneself closer to Allah by giving the sacrificial meat to the poor and needy as well as to family, relatives and friends. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “None of you should offer sacrifice of animals until he has completed the (Eid) prayer”.
Qurban is a Sunnah Muak’ka’dah, strongly encouraged by our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
One individual should sacrifice a sheep/goat for Qurban. But for an ox or cow, 7 individual/name can be shared together.
A person who reach puberty (baleegh) and who can afford for the cost of a sheep/goat should perform Qurban.
We have to slaughter an animal for the sake of Allah (SWT) on Eid-ul-Adha (10 – Zulhijjah) or on the Tasyrik days ( 11,12 – Zulhijjah).
We need to perform Qurban every year as long as we can afford to perform it.
Qurban can only be performed for Muslims who are still alive. For Muslims who have passed away, one cannot perform any Korban/Qurban for them.
Sacrificial meat of Korban/Qurban should be divided into three portions and given to:
1) 1/3 to the poor and needy.
2) 1/3 to family, relatives and friends, even if they do not wish to receive it.
3) 1/3 to oneself, this portion may be eaten and may also be given to non-muslims.
However, if the korban/Qurban is performed with the intention of Nazar, the one performing the korban/Qurban is not allowed to consume the meat.
We are offering Aqiqah in Myanmar. The meat is distributed to the poor and need Muslims and Islamic orphanages in rural parts of the country.
There are many poor Madrasahs and needy Muslims in Myanmar who really cannot afford to consume meat in their daily life. By doing Aqiqah in Myanmar, we can help not only needy Madrasah Students but also poor Muslim communities to fulfill their daily need.
We will cook the meat into curry and distributed the cooked meat to the needy Madrasahs and poor Muslims directly in Myanmar.
